Fashion Photography and Styling Workshop – Istituto Marangoni

As part of the Italian Design Day worldwide, FAD Connection presents The Act of Styling: From Cows to AI  with Jacopo Cozzi, the second event in the Istituto Marangoni Virtual Talks 2025 series. The session will be moderated by Paula Guardia Bourdin, who will also lead the Q&A segment.

This talk explores Styling as a form of creative action oriented toward the personal, which cannot exist without taste: the ability to make conscious decisions. While taste can stand on its own, style needs taste in order to be built. This is especially evident in the realm of fashion, where styling involves creating new images from the past and the present. But what does it really mean to create new images? Through a journey across fashion and art, graffiti and painting, photography and generative artificial intelligence, this talk seeks to decode the figure of the stylist as a visual critic of contemporary culture — sometimes, even in spite of themselves.

Jacopo Cozzi, born in Siena (Italy), studied at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University and completed a PhD in Humanities at Paris Diderot University, while working as a screenwriter. In 2015, he joined the Public Relations and Communications department at Editions de l’Olivier. He later worked as an assistant professor at Paris Diderot University and as a copywriter. In 2016, he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and taught at Wake Forest University (USA). In 2018, he joined Istituto Marangoni in Paris, and in 2019 was appointed Program Leader of Fashion Styling and Creative Direction.

Istituto Marangoni is one of the most prestigious schools of fashion, art, and design in the world. Founded in Milan in 1935, it now has campuses in Milan, Paris, London, Florence, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Mumbai, Dubai, and Miami.
Studying at Marangoni means becoming part of a global fashion community, with influential alumni such as Franco Moschino, Domenico Dolce, and Alessandra Facchinetti. Every year, more than 4,000 students choose this institution for its high-level academic education that combines theory with practice. Its approach is based on four key pillars: strategic locations, highly qualified faculty, an international outlook, and the signature Italian style—preparing students to stand out in the industry and become future leaders.

FAD Connection is a network of creative universities that connects students with international institutions. With a team of coaches and mentors in fashion, art, and design, we provide vocational tools and guide them throughout the application process. Our mission is based on three key principles: fostering cultural exchange, enhancing vocational clarity, and promoting creative education. Through this approach, we aim to inspire more people to study, live, and express art.
