What Noise on Earth is a book of visual poetry on the theme of Christmas. Its title comes from a Breton carol. Some poems take a Christmas carol as their starting point, poems such as Gaudete, Gloria and Balulalow. Another focuses on the tradition in Irish folklore of placing a lighted candle in the window of a house on Christmas Eve. The Viaduct over the river Boyne features and also the Maiden Tower at Mornington. There is a poem about Francis Ledwidge, the poet from Slane, Co. Meath, sometimes called ‘the poet of the blackbirds

Susan Connolly, born in 1976, is a contemporary Irish artist specializing in abstract art. Throughout her career, she has received various artistic accolades, including awards from Kildare County Council (2014), the WARP artist residency in Belgium (2010), a Travel and Training Award (2009), the DCR Guesthouse residency in The Hague, Netherlands (2009), and the Golden Foundation in New York (2017).
